Wars, migrations and settlements of the Viking Age (800-1100) as seen through the Icelandic sagas, and the afterlife of the Viking world in modern culture.
NORD_V 339 (3) Norse Mythology
The pagan mythology of pre-Christian Scandinavia and its later appropriations and recycling.
NORD_V 340 (3) Sámi Histories and Cultures
Cultural history of the Sámi peoples, the Indigenous peoples of northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia's Kola Peninsula. Focus on traditional culture, colonization, and decolonization.
NORD_V 341 (3) Indigenous Activism
Examination of contemporary political and social conflicts in the circumpolar north, focusing on ways Indigenous people have used art, performance and activism as a tool for resistance and decolonization. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

Investigation of readings and research undertaking topics of Nordic Studies, with the agreement and under the supervision of a faculty member with relevant expertise. Restricted to Nordic Studies students with approval from the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
