The Combined Major in Business and Computer Science (BUCS) is a specialization program within the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) program. This program provides students with a strong grounding in both business and computer science. Although the degree granted is the Bachelor of Commerce, the program is jointly administered by the Faculty and the Department of Computer Science. Both units will provide student advising.
Admission to the BUCS program is competitive and requires an application. All current and newly admitted B. Com. students will receive notification in early May regarding the BUCS application. Applicants must complete the BUCS application online by the deadline in early June that will be provided to students. Successful applicants will be automatically transitioned to the BUCS program and will receive a registration guide to assist with the registration process. See details of the Application process and admission requirements in Faculty website . Students may contact the Office of Student Academic Services for more details.
A student transferring from another university or college may be granted transfer credit for a maximum of 50% of degree requirements. All upper-level commerce core courses and computer science core courses must be completed while registered in the Bachelor of Commerce program.
Effective September 1, 2022, the following requirements represent the core courses of this Combined Major. Students who were initially registered in the program prior to September 1, 2022, should consult the Office of Student Academic Services regarding the requirements to complete the program.

Students are permitted to retake a required option core course only once if they have failed it, without needing to submit an appeal. Students who need to retake a core option course for a third time must appeal to the Director or designate within the Office of Student Academic Services for permission. If the course is offered by another Faculty, students must also obtain permission to retake the course from the Faculty that offers the course. Should a student’s appeal be denied, or should they fail a required course by another Faculty, they will be required to switch from the Combined Major to another specialization within the general degree program. Appeals for further attempts are generally not approved.
